Welcome to Mindspring Connections

Mindspring Connections is a personal development coaching practice built upon the premise that meaningful change begins with understanding yourself, but it is created through what you choose to do with that understanding.

My name is Demetrius A. Locke. My role as a coach is not to tell you who you should become or what your life should look like. It is to help you examine where you are, clarify where you want to go, recognize the patterns and obstacles affecting your progress, and help you develop practical strategies for moving forward.

Personal development coaching is a collaborative process focused on greater self-awareness, deliberate choice, practical action, and continued growth. Our work may involve examining your goals, values, habits, relationships, decisions, perspectives, personal boundaries, recurring patterns, strengths, challenges, and the circumstances in which they occur. Coaching can provide perspective, questions, tools, structure, accountability, and another set of eyes with which to examine a problem. What it cannot do is live your life for you.

Lasting personal development ultimately requires your participation. You decide what matters. You decide what you are willing to examine. You decide what actions you will take. And over time, those choices help determine what you create.

My responsibility is to work with you seriously, thoughtfully, and honestly while you undertake that process. Your responsibility is to do the work that belongs to you. The objective is to help you become increasingly capable of understanding, directing, and continuing your own development.

People seek coaching for many different reasons. You may have a specific goal you are struggling to reach. You may be facing a period of transition or uncertainty. You may recognize patterns in your life that continue to repeat without fully understanding why. Or you may simply know that something needs to change without yet knowing what that change should be. Some people arrive with a clearly defined destination. Others begin by trying to understand where they are.

Depending upon the subject of our conversations, we may use reflective practices, goal-setting, strategic planning, pattern recognition, perspective work, accountability, as well as other practical methods and tools to help you better understand your situation and determine what you want to do about it. Whatever brings you here, the work begins with you.

Coaching is unique to the individual, just as every person’s life is unique. But many of the methods by which we explore can be applied to many areas. Those areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Self-awareness and personal understanding
  • Goals, direction, and life transitions
  • Habits, patterns, and behavioral change
  • Values, priorities, and decision-making
  • Personal boundaries and relationships
  • Self-discipline, accountability, and follow-through
  • Personal health and fitness
  • Emotional awareness and self-compassion
  • Career, work, and personal performance
  • Life balance and personal fulfillment
  • Meaning, purpose, and personal philosophy
  • Personal and spiritual development, when relevant to the individual

Some changes take weeks. Others take years. Some begin with decisive action; others begin with a single question that changes the direction in which you are looking. If you feel something in your life is worth changing, now is always a good time to begin taking the steps only you can take towards improving it.
